Jim Thornton, the well-known announcer for “Wheel of Fortune,” has been suspended while under investigation following an incident on an American Airlines flight. Thornton, who has worked on the show since 2011, is defending himself through his lawyer.
According to TMZ, Thornton’s lawyer stated that the 61-year-old has not engaged in any illegal activity and has not been arrested or charged with a crime. This follows a complaint about his behavior from another passenger on a flight in May.
“On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard,” the airline informed Fox News Digital.
Sony Pictures Television Studios acknowledged the allegations and mentioned that they are recasting while conducting a thorough investigation.
Thornton, who replaced Charlie O’Donnell as the announcer after O’Donnell’s death in 2010, was met by law enforcement at the gate, but after a short interaction, they determined no wrongdoing had occurred and he was free to leave.
Thornton has had a prolific career, contributing his voice to shows such as “Celebrity Death Match,” “The Cleveland Show,” and Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” He has also worked on “The Price is Right” and “Jeopardy!” and has been part of KNX 1070 news radio since 1985.
Throughout his career, Thornton has received multiple accolades, including the Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy.
