Christie Brinkley Embraces Family Values in ‘American Summer’

4 weeks ago 0

Christie Brinkley, renowned actress and supermodel, shares the screen with Steve Guttenberg in “American Summer.” This film serves as a tribute to family connections and the fond memories of simpler times. Now 72, Brinkley told Fox News Digital how these themes resonate with her own life, emphasizing the importance of creating a welcoming home for her three adult children.

“American Summer,” released on September 4, highlights the journey of Guttenberg’s character as he recalls a significant childhood summer filled with baseball, first love, and the mystery surrounding his father’s disappearance overseas.

Brinkley revealed, “I have always prioritized family. I’ve built a life ensuring my kids have their independence while always knowing they are welcome home.” Her children often return for weekends and holidays, reinforcing their close bond.

Brinkley frequently appears in photos with her children — Alexa Ray Joel, 40, Jack Paris Brinkley-Cook, 31, and Sailor Brinkley-Cook, 28. Their connection stems from the strong family values instilled by her own parents.

Her parents’ passing in 2012 deeply affected Brinkley, making her treasure family time even more. Her father, Don Brinkley, passed away on July 14, followed by her mother, Marge Brinkley, on September 9.

“Losing both parents reminds you of the finite nature of time, enhancing the importance of family memories,” she said.

Guttenberg understands this sentiment, having paused his acting career to care for his father, Stanley Guttenberg, who suffered from kidney failure.

Family remains central to Brinkley’s life. Her daughter Alexa Ray is currently preparing for a concert, while Jack joined her for the “American Summer” premiere. Brinkley believes audiences desire stories centered on family themes.

“People yearn for face-to-face interactions over digital distractions. ‘American Summer’ takes us back to a time before cell phones, encouraging genuine connections,” Brinkley expressed.

She enjoys hosting simple family gatherings like beach bonfires, emphasizing the joy of slowing down and reconnecting. “That’s as good as it gets,” she remarked.

Beyond family events, Brinkley finds pleasure in birdwatching, a hobby growing in popularity as more people seek to unplug and connect with nature.

“I’ve always loved birdwatching. It’s wonderful to see it gaining popularity, especially among young people looking to connect with nature,” she said.

Brinkley believes that by valuing family and enjoying simple pleasures, she’s created a home her children always want to return to.
