The college football season is underway, and after the first full Saturday of games, some surprises have emerged in the betting world. Although the initial results of picks were not favorable, hope remains as Sunday matches promise excitement. The absence of NFL games this week gives college football the spotlight.
Louisville vs. Ole Miss
This game stands out on the schedule as it pits two ranked teams against each other. Louisville is coming off a successful 9-4 season, highlighted by a Boca Raton Bowl victory over Toledo. The team has made significant changes by integrating eight offensive starters through transfers, along with five defensive players. This new lineup offers potential but also the risk of initial disarray.
WEEK ONE UPSET SPECIAL: KEEP AN EYE ON THESE TEAMS
Ole Miss enters the season with notable storylines. After losing coach Lane Kiffin to LSU, Pete Golding takes the helm. The team faces the challenge of moving forward, especially on the defensive end. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss brings some stability and shouldered the team to some success last season. Ole Miss saw a smaller influx of offensive transfers than Louisville, but defense will need rebuilding as only four starters return. Expect this game to unfold at a slower pace with a projected total score under 55.5 points.
Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame
Though not as evenly matched, this game still draws interest. Wisconsin has lost its powerhouse status, ending last season at 4-8. This year, they introduce five new faces among their offensive starters, including key positions like quarterback and running back.
Notre Dame aims for a strong campaign, boasting a 10-2 record last season. Their lenient schedule places them at an advantage. CJ Carr returns as quarterback with Aneyas Williams leading the backfield. Only Miami appears as a real challenge this season, and they will play the Hurricanes at home.
Despite the disparity in strengths, I’m taking Wisconsin to cover the +20.5 spread. Although Notre Dame is technically the host, the game at Lambeau Field favors the Badgers. Under coach Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame hasn’t excelled in early-season matches, going 3-5 in initial weeks and dropping the first game twice during his tenure.
