Reports have emerged about Georgetown University students allegedly planning a Charlie Kirk lookalike contest on the anniversary of his death. The contest is said to have drawn thousands of upvotes on the anonymous social media platform, Fizz, according to Georgetown’s Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter.
The event, allegedly scheduled for September 10, 2026, was highlighted on Fizz with a post stating, “Charlie Kirk lookalike contest. September 10th 2026. Pull up to Copley Lawn to speak the truth while the cost is high.” This post received over 2,200 upvotes, indicating significant interest among students. Georgetown University has around 6,000 undergraduates, placing this event in a notably high participation context.
TPUSA members suspect the phrase “speak the truth while the cost is high” is meant to mock. Copley Lawn, located outside the iconic Healy Hall, was mentioned as the event’s location.
To counter the controversial event, the TPUSA chapter set up an awareness table on campus. Their table featured American flags and signs condemning the proposed contest.
In addition to the Charlie Kirk contest, Fizz users discussed an Erika Kirk lookalike contest. One user jokingly suggested, “Can the winner of the Charlie Kirk one be prom king with the winner of this?” They speculate these discussions began on Fizz, where users need a Georgetown email to log in.
A Fizz user has also proposed The Georgetown Chimes, a choral group, sing a Charlie Kirk meme song. This song, “We Are Charlie Kirk,” considered AI-generated, emerged after Kirk’s death.
Further reports noted additional posts marking a “Kirkiversary” on September 10, using AI images of Kirk.
Heidi Sui, TPUSA’s president at Georgetown, expressed concern over the contest, saying it reflects a misunderstanding of debate and civil disagreement. She emphasized the need to separate political differences from celebrating violence.
In response, Georgetown University stated no university or student organization officially sanctioned such an event. The spokesperson confirmed, “We take these anonymous posts seriously and condemn their language.” The university remains focused on maintaining safety and fostering a respectful learning environment.
The spokesperson highlighted, “Making light of a victim of violence is counter to our values.” Georgetown’s commitment to freedom of expression is clear, but within the bounds of respect and decency.
