WWE star Cody Rhodes offered his condolences following the death of Andy Williams, known in pro wrestling as The Butcher. Williams passed away over the weekend after collapsing during a match at Enjoy Wrestling in Pennsylvania. He was 48 years old.
Williams was not only a wrestler but also a musician. He performed as a guitarist for the band Every Time I Die. His wrestling journey began in the early 2010s, making his debut in 2015. By 2017, he had teamed up with Guilmette, calling themselves The Butcher and The Blade. Together, they appeared in various wrestling promotions including All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
Rhodes was part of The Butcher’s debut in AEW. The Butcher, along with The Blade and Bunny, emerged from under the ring to attack Rhodes after a match. In an interview with OutKick Dropkick, Rhodes reflected on the event.
“When I was away from WWE, we recruited him and Blade, known as Pepper Parks, along with Bunny for a memorable debut,” Rhodes said. “He came up under the ring, they attacked me, and I cherish that moment. Though I didn’t spend enough time with him personally, his warmth, charisma, and intelligence left a mark. The Butcher might look intimidating with his mustache, tattoos, and muscles, but he was truly special, intelligent, artistic, and a beautiful person.”
Rhodes further shared his sentiments about Williams’ untimely death.
“I wish I had been around him more, but I’m grateful to have been part of his memorable moments,” Rhodes continued. “My thoughts are with those close to him as they deal with this shock. He was so young and leaves behind countless people with fond memories and stories.”
The wrestling community mourned the loss of Williams on Sunday afternoon. His influence and personality had a significant impact on those he worked with, as conveyed by the many warm stories shared about him.
