Democratic Midterm Strategies and Rhode Island GOP Primary Race

Democratic Strategies for Midterms

Attorney Matt Belinsky and Brianna Lyman from The Federalist discuss a report by Axios. This report outlines Democratic strategic moves for the midterm campaigns. The conversation also involves reactions to Steve Hilton’s viral comments made during Joe Rogan’s podcast. Hilton criticized Los Angeles’ decline and rising gas prices, attributing these issues to Democratic policies.

Rhode Island GOP Primary

Elaine Pelino, a former NFL cheerleader pursuing a conservative political stance, and Aaron Guckian, a more centrist candidate, are competing in the GOP primary. By early Thursday morning, the race remained tight. The primary focuses on capabilities as Republicans attempt to find a contender who can win in a state that traditionally favors Democrats.

In past elections, Democratic candidate Daniel McKee, currently serving as Rhode Island’s governor, defeated Republican Ashley Kalus with 57.9% of the vote to Kalus’ 38.9%.

Elaine Pelino’s Campaign Focus

Elaine Pelino has pledged to advocate for merit-based hiring and to back law enforcement policies, immigration regulations, and school choice. At a candidate forum, she stated, “Everything is a learning curve because I’m not a lifetime politician. I’m here because I love Rhode Island. I want them to live in a prosperous and safe place. We should get all the illegals out of here.”

Pelino’s background includes working as a model, in media, and as a cheerleader for the Houston Oilers, now known as the Tennessee Titans. Her entrepreneurial venture, Tigress magazine, began in 2011, producing 12 issues.

Aaron Guckian’s Focus on Policy

Aaron Guckian emphasizes a policy-driven agenda. He aims to revise Rhode Island’s permitting system, enhance service delivery, and regulate state revenue use. He expressed concerns over the state’s budget escalation on his campaign website. “The state budget rose from $9.3 billion in 2019 to over $14 billion between 2024 and 2026. This signifies nearly 50% growth in five years while federal COVID relief funds are depleting,” Guckian noted. “Rhode Island made a critical mistake by creating permanent commitments based on temporary federal resources.”

Upcoming General Election Challenges

Once Pelino or Guckian wins the primary, a challenging general election awaits them on November 3. The narrative continues with insights from Leo Briceno, a political reporter at Fox News Digital, who previously contributed to World Magazine.
