Sami Zayn Becomes Undisputed WWE Champion Amid Chaos on SmackDown

The main event of Friday Night SmackDown ended in chaos, resulting in Sami Zayn capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship. CM Punk, who won the title from Zayn weeks ago on Monday Night Raw, put the championship on the line. Zayn’s first title reign was brief, lasting only a few days after his victory over Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions. Driven to reclaim the championship, Zayn was determined to seize another opportunity.

In the match, Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae sided with Zayn, creating drama at ringside. LeRae managed to distract the referee, allowing Gargano to attempt a strike on Punk with the championship belt. Gargano missed his mark, and Punk countered with his signature move, Go to Sleep. While the referee dealt with Gargano, Kevin Owens intervened, trying to hit Zayn with the belt.

Instead, Owens accidentally struck Punk, who disregarded the incident and refocused on Zayn, only to be hit by a low blow. Punk faltered to the corner, setting up Zayn for the decisive Helluva Kick, leading to the pinfall victory.

This victory marks Zayn’s second tenure as Undisputed WWE Champion this year, with his first reign lasting only nine days. Fans hope his second reign will extend longer. Notably, the championship has changed hands five times this year. Drew McIntyre claimed the title in January, followed by Rhodes in March. Zayn defeated Rhodes in June, but lost to Punk in July. Now, Zayn has reclaimed the title in September amidst several upcoming premium live events.

As the title picture remains uncertain, Zayn may face challenges from CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Cody Rhodes, Johnny Gargano, and Randy Orton. Drew McIntyre, sidelined for months, could also re-enter the championship race upon his return.
