Lindy Li, a former Democratic fundraiser, shifted her party allegiance due to ignored concerns about President Joe Biden’s decline in the 2024 election. She believes Kamala Harris maneuvered to capture Biden’s donors just before his campaign withdrawal, while still projecting confidence in Biden’s chances.
Li remarked on Harris’s strategic approach, stating, “It was all a charade. She was auditioning for Biden’s endorsement, imposing a fake rule on her staff to avoid discussions about her rising in the nomination race.” These insights are shared in Li’s book, “Unburdened,” which details the events leading to Biden suspending his campaign. Even close aides expected a halt after a disastrous debate performance.
Li, who supported Biden and Harris, noted many Democrats foreseeing campaign troubles yet staying silent. Harris, however, positioned herself for future opportunities.
According to Li, Harris was tactically focused on engaging donors who might back her later. “I participated in calls where Harris claimed unity with Biden, yet simultaneously courted the same donors,” Li explained. On July 19, 2024, Harris assured major party donors of Biden’s continued candidacy, mere days before he exited the race on July 21.
Post-announcement, Harris moved swiftly within the Democratic circles to garner support, implying Biden’s endorsement despite initial reluctance. “Biden initially hesitated to endorse her, even delaying his backing,” Li observed. Biden’s endorsement came shortly after his decision not to seek reelection, enhancing Harris’s maneuvering.
Despite Harris’s attempts to portray support for Biden, skepticism persisted among donors. Li conveyed, “Many viewed it as deceptive. There was a clear awareness of being misled, recognizing Biden’s struggles while being told otherwise.”
The Harris camp did not immediately address these claims made to Fox News Digital.
