The Powerball jackpot has reached a remarkable $856 million, marking the largest total this year. The lump sum prize is $370.7 million before taxes. This is the eighth-largest Powerball jackpot of all time. It needs to exceed the $1 billion milestone to rank among the top seven.
Combining Mega Millions jackpots, Saturday’s draw becomes the 16th-largest in U.S. history. Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group chair and Kansas Lottery executive director, notes that entering the top 10 largest jackpots typically attracts more players to the game.

The biggest Powerball jackpot ever recorded was a $2.04 billion ticket sold in California in November 2022. Despite this, no lump sum has ever surpassed the $1 billion mark. The record drawing won by Edwin Castro in 2022 totaled $997.6 million.
This jackpot includes a novel feature. Individuals in the United Kingdom can participate along with players from 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The UK began selling Powerball tickets on July 21. If the jackpot isn’t claimed, it may grow rapidly due to more participants.
Since the last jackpot win on May 2, there have been 41 unsuccessful draws. Nevertheless, there have been smaller wins, such as a $1 million victory in Ohio from matching all five white balls during Wednesday’s drawing. The upcoming draw will be on Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. The odds of winning the top prize stand at 1 in 292.2 million.
