The 78th Emmy Awards are set to air Monday night, with Mariska Hargitay, known for her role in Law & Order: SVU, as the host. This year’s ceremony comes with some changes. The Television Academy expanded what used to be the Creative Arts Emmys into a two-night event. This new format highlights categories such as casting, guest actors, game shows, documentaries, and the contributions of behind-the-scenes professionals.
This year, Rob Reiner was honored posthumously, receiving his third Emmy for a guest appearance on The Bear. Host Mariska Hargitay also won two awards for her documentary, My Mom Jayne. The main ceremony on Monday will feature the presentation of 19 awards, including those for top comedy and drama series, as well as best actor and actress in each category.
