Las Vegas tourism faced challenges recently, yet the latest data suggests a rebound is underway. The city showed the highest year-over-year increase in searches for U.S. destinations, outpacing Orlando and New York, according to Priceline. In July, visitor numbers rose by 2.7% compared to last year, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported.
Current Statistics
Hotel occupancy improved slightly, rising 1.1 percentage points to 77.2%, despite a 5.6% drop in convention attendance. These figures indicate a partial recovery from a 12% decrease in visitation in July 2025.
Rising Costs Challenge Visitors
Despite signs of recovery, tourists face higher costs. An example is a $26 minibar bottle of water at Aria, sparking social media discussions in 2025. Such instances highlight concerns about rising expenses in Vegas.
“We are still gradually losing leisure travelers,” LVCVA President Steve Hill said, although convention attendance remains strong enough to offset it.
Las Vegas welcomed 38.5 million visitors in 2025, a 7.5% decrease from the previous year, with spending dropping to $50.8 billion from $55.1 billion in 2024. Visitor volume is also 10% below the 42.5 million seen in 2019. A significant factor is fewer Canadian travelers, alongside more expensive flights, impacting overall numbers.
Visitors are wealthier and tend to be older now; 75% earned over $100,000, and 44% earned over $150,000 in 2025. Conversely, visitation among those aged 21 to 29 has declined by more than 10% since 2022.
Shifting Focus to Luxury Experiences
Las Vegas has adapted to luxury trends, catering more to wealthy clients. Premium room rates, fine dining, and exclusive events drive revenue, according to luxury travel expert Whytney Rawls.
Entertainment remains a significant draw, with The Sphere grossing $379 million from ticket sales in 2025, becoming the top-grossing arena worldwide.
High-profile events, such as the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, also exemplify the city’s strategy to attract affluent visitors.
