President Donald Trump announced the conversion of his planned triumphal arch near Arlington Memorial Bridge into a military complex. The structure will house drones, deploy snipers, and store ammunition, as per the request of the United States Military for national security reasons.
On Truth Social, Trump shared that the arch would be transformed into a high-grade military complex. The arch, inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, will be 250 feet tall with three golden statues, welcoming visitors crossing from Arlington National Cemetery into the capital.
“There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World,” Trump stated regarding the project.
The monument will have rapid capabilities to deploy drones and position snipers on various areas of the structure. It will also store significant amounts of sniper ammunition.
The project has faced criticism from preservationists, lawmakers, and veterans, expressing concerns about its impact on the views of the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. There is also debate on whether congressional approval is required under federal law. The National Capital Planning Commission has given preliminary approval, but further review is needed.
In addition to the arch, Trump is overseeing several construction projects in Washington. A 90,000-square-foot White House ballroom is underway, with seating for about 650 guests, following classical White House design. This new ballroom will replace the existing East Wing.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned that the ballroom, estimated to cost $200 million, will be funded by Trump and private donors.
Trump has also added gold accents in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, lined the “walk of fame” with presidential portraits, and made updates to the Rose Garden lawn and flagpoles.
The White House has yet to provide additional comments on these developments. Amanda Macias offers insight into how business, economics, and political decisions affect markets, businesses, and workers in America.
