Sheik’s notable contribution to the music scene began with his 1996 hit, Barely Breathing. This song spent an impressive 55 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching the 16th spot. It even earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1998. The track later resonated with new audiences through television shows like ‘Glee’ and ‘Girls’.

Besides Barely Breathing and Spring Awakening, Sheik worked on other projects like American Psycho, which saw success in London before opening on Broadway in 2016. He expanded his creative reach with projects like Whisper House, Legerdemain, and his 2022 album Claptrap.

Duncan Sheik is survived by his wife, Nora Ariffin, and their 7-year-old daughter, Ines. His contributions to both pop music and Broadway continue to be celebrated by fans and the industry alike.
