Law enforcement in California is actively searching for Derek Spencer, a 44-year-old man considered armed and dangerous, who is suspected of committing multiple felonies. Spencer is wanted for allegedly murdering a woman and firing at law enforcement personnel and civilians in Iowa Hill.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reports that Spencer initially attracted attention for allegedly pointing a firearm at individuals on Sunday. He was located by deputies in the Iowa Hill area, where he rammed a patrol vehicle and fled, prompting an intensive search effort.
“Everyone in the Iowa Hill area is urged to secure their homes and remain indoors,” warned the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The terrain presents challenges for the search teams due to its size and density. Despite this, tactical teams found a female murder victim believed to have been killed by Spencer while clearing a residence he had visited earlier. The victim was discovered shot and killed inside the home. The sheriff’s office mentioned that Spencer possibly fled into the surrounding forest following the crime.
Support from multiple law enforcement agencies is aiding the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in this ongoing search. Teams are committed to continuing the search through the night, aiming to apprehend Spencer as swiftly as possible.
Authorities described the suspect as a bald man with a goatee, highlighting that efforts to locate him remain urgent due to the perceived threat he poses.
