Youngest Georgia Mayor Removed Amid Misconduct Allegations

2 weeks ago 0

Jayden Williams, the former mayor of Stockbridge, Georgia, did not foresee his removal from office earlier this month due to alleged misconduct. During an interview with WSB-TV, Williams expressed his surprise, stating, “I didn’t expect this. You know, maybe a censure, but definitely not a removal.”

Williams, age 23, made history as the youngest mayor in Georgia and served for less than a year before being ousted. His term ended following accusations related to the misuse of city funds and a controversial relationship with an 18-year-old high school student.

Addressing the situation, Williams admitted to WSB-TV that the relationship’s appropriateness might be questionable, saying, “I would have to somewhat agree to that.” He clarified that the relationship was non-sexual and noted that “there was no violation of the oath” as he wasn’t yet mayor during its occurrence.

NBC News reported that Williams acknowledged exchanging nude photographs, describing the behavior as typical for someone his age during a city council meeting. Georgia law considered the student an adult, and a police report found no criminal activity.

Williams also recognized his missteps in financial management, admitting he mistakenly used funds for personal purchases. He claimed these transactions involved the mayor’s reallocated $5,000 annual budget and not the city’s general fund. “It was not intentional and I paid it back immediately,” he explained to WSB-TV.

The incident was partly due to confusion between the city purchasing card and his personal card, which resembled each other. To prevent future issues, Williams replaced the cards as reported by Fox 5.

Williams campaigned for the mayoralty during his time as a student at Clark Atlanta University, achieving the historic milestone shortly after taking office in January. The Stockbridge City Council impeached him earlier this month.

Fox News Digital’s Alex Nitzberg contributed to the report.
