Porsha Williams Shares Her Health Journey

7 days ago 0

Renowned reality TV personality Porsha Williams recently discussed a deeply personal health experience. Over a decade, Williams has been a familiar face on television, revealing aspects of her life from fertility challenges to post-divorce recovery. Now, she has chosen to speak about a significant health issue she previously kept private.

In a conversation with Gayle King, co-anchor of “CBS Mornings,” Williams revealed she had to undergo an emergency partial hysterectomy. This was due to the discovery of 21 uterine fibroids, one as large as a cantaloupe. “It all happened so fast. It really didn’t hit me until I woke up in the hospital bed,” Williams recounted.

Williams has coped with fibroids since her late 20s. Although she had previously undergone uterine fibroid embolization to manage them, she believed they were no longer an issue. She explained, “I had symptoms but, you know, I’m 45 years old, and I’m thinking, oh, maybe perimenopause,” mentioning a lengthy menstrual cycle, migraines, and fatigue.

The fibroids were first detected when Williams faced fertility challenges during her attempts to conceive. A pregnancy led to further examinations, where a doctor noticed a fibroid. Initially, there was hope it would diminish during the pregnancy, but it grew larger than the baby, ultimately causing a miscarriage. Williams later welcomed her daughter, Pilar, in 2019.

Believing her family was complete post-divorce, Williams thought she was finished with childbirth. However, during a friend’s fertility consultation, she decided to get examined. The results were alarming. “She went silent during the exam, and I looked at the screen, and all I could see was, like, black, and then I started seeing some circular lines. And I’m like, ‘Not again. Not again.'” A fertility specialist confirmed the presence of numerous fibroids, leading to a necessary surgery in May 2026.

“We have to stop diagnosing ourselves. There are so many different things when it comes to a woman that you need to get checked, and we need to learn to advocate for ourselves,” Williams emphasized.

Williams shares her story to inspire other women to take charge of their health. She highlighted the importance of seeking medical advice rather than self-diagnosing and urged women to ask for necessary tests when something feels wrong.
