Incident Details
Riders were evacuated from a Green Line train heading to Forest Park on Saturday afternoon. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) reported that the train’s wheels became misaligned.
While traveling to the Harlem/Lake station, the train passed through a track switch that was not correctly aligned.
This misalignment resulted in the front and rear train wheels being positioned on separate track segments. However, the CTA clarified that this was not a derailment — all train wheels stayed on the tracks.
Temporary Measures
Buses carried passengers along the affected areas while service crews worked to restore normal Green Line operations.
The Oak Park Fire Department assisted to ensure the safe evacuation of the train passengers.
Additional Information
The CTA did not provide details on train delays or station closures following the incident. Neither did the Village of Oak Park respond immediately for comments.
