Chris Simms Faces Backlash for Remarks on Quarterback Injury

3 days ago 0

On Saturday night, NBC’s sports analyst Chris Simms became a focal point of criticism on social media due to comments he made during the halftime of the Oregon-USC game.

Simms attributed blame to Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore for the harmful hit that led him to the hospital. He highlighted Moore’s stature, suggesting the quarterback’s actions put the defender in a difficult position.

“Dante Moore is 6-3, 240 pounds, he’s running at you. The defender Stephens is bracing himself, getting ready to get low to make the tackle… You have to be careful with the quarterback. But… I think he slid very late,” Simms remarked.

Following criticism from fans, Simms issued an apology for perceived insensitivity regarding Moore’s injury.

On Sunday, Simms addressed fans on social media. He acknowledged his lack of empathy and expressed regret over focusing solely on football during the serious incident.

“I’d like to take a moment to apologize to everyone… I clearly did not show enough sympathy for the situation,” stated Simms. “…I love college football. I want to apologize… especially to the Oregon Duck fans.”

Simms reaffirmed respect for the Oregon Ducks and Dante Moore. He extended his apologies to coach Dan Lanning and cited personal experience with on-field injury to underscore his understanding of the sport’s dangers.

Despite Simms’ public apology, some fans remain unforgiving, suggesting the apology was merely a response to public backlash. Simms conceded his comments were inappropriate and acknowledged his mistakes.
