The television network ABC is encountering backlash following statements made by Ana Navarro, co-host of ‘The View,’ on Monday. Navarro encouraged viewers to vote for a Democrat in a significant Florida congressional race.
Navarro expressed surprise at the close competition between incumbent Representative Maria Elvira Salazar, a Republican from Florida, and Democratic challenger Elliott Rodriguez in the 27th district of the state. Salazar recently attracted attention for releasing an advertisement critical of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Navarro shared with audiences that she is a resident of this district.
‘I had taken this race for granted because she won two years ago by 20 points. And this is a district Donald Trump won by 15 points … but polls have her dead even,’ Navarro stated.
She continued by urging residents in Coral Gables, Miami, Key Biscayne, and downtown Miami to pay close attention to the race, emphasizing the importance of voting. Navarro suggested Elliott Rodriguez is a worthy candidate and encouraged viewers to consider him.
ABC has come under fire, with critics alleging ‘electioneering’ and questioning whether Navarro’s comments infringe on broadcast licensing regulations. Opinion Editor Ben Domenech from the Daily Wire commented on social media platform X, ‘How is this not electioneering? She’s literally telling them who to vote for.’ Media Research Center President David Bozell and Heritage Foundation media fellow Tim Young also criticized ABC, questioning if it should retain its broadcast license.
ABC programs like ‘The View’ are under scrutiny by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to determine whether they are considered ‘bona fide news,’ an exemption that impacts equal time rules for political candidates. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr launched an investigation into ‘The View’ for compliance with equal opportunities requirements.
Navarro is known for her outspoken political views, often critical of Trump, including her participation as a host at the Democratic National Convention in 2024.
ABC News and the FCC did not respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment on the situation.
