During Saturday’s game between the Oregon Ducks and the USC Trojans, Oregon’s quarterback Dante Moore suffered a head injury following a hit by linebacker Desman Stephens II. The incident occurred early in the second quarter as Moore attempted to slide to safety.
Stephens delivered a forceful hit to Moore’s head, leading to his immediate ejection for targeting. The linebacker was subsequently suspended for one game due to his actions, which officials deemed “unacceptable.”
Following the impact, Moore exhibited a fencing response, signaling a significant head injury. He was later diagnosed with a concussion, although MRI and CT scans indicated no further damage.
Moore expressed his gratitude through a public statement on Monday, saying, “To my team, the community, and to the World, thank you. These past 2 days have been difficult, but through all of your prayers I have made progress. There’s times I question myself and the Lord and say Why now? but I quickly remember Jeremiah 29:11: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’. I can only worry about today, and making sure I give today it’s full attention. I’ll be back soon. Go Ducks!”
In his absence, backup quarterback Dylan Raiola stepped in, throwing for 289 yards and achieving two touchdowns. Raiola’s performance was instrumental in the Ducks’ 41-27 victory over the Trojans.
The Oregon Ducks will face off against the UCLA Bruins in their upcoming game scheduled for Saturday, October 10.
