The Washington Post received a rare opportunity to report from Iran due to an invitation to the funeral of Ali Khamenei. This event marked the first reporting chance for the publication since the start of the conflict.
The funeral took place in Tehran, where crowds gathered in response to the orchestrated ceremony honoring Iran’s former supreme leader. Khamenei was killed in February during the initial U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Numerous Iranian officials participated in the procession. However, Mojtaba Khamenei, the son and appointed successor of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was not present.
