Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett expressed gratitude to both passengers and crew who acted quickly to thwart a potential disaster on a flight to Israel. An investigation is underway into what might have been a terrorist attack. The incident involved a co-pilot allegedly stabbing the pilot mid-air, sending the plane into a nosedive.
During his appearance on “The Faulkner Focus,” Bennett stated, “This wasn’t a miracle, it was an act of heroism by the passengers and of the Emirati crew.” He praised those who took decisive action, stressing, “It’s people who saved the day, people who showed courage. I’m so proud to be Israeli today.”
The flight was redirected to Saudi Arabia. Here, authorities permitted an emergency landing and ensured the safety and care of those on board. Once on the ground, passengers were transferred to another aircraft, completing their journey to Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv.
Bennett acknowledged the Saudi authorities for their cooperation during the emergency. He recounted information from Israeli authorities, noting the flight originated in Dubai and was en route to Tel Aviv when the co-pilot attacked with a pocketknife, trying to force the plane into a steep descent.
In response, several Israeli passengers reportedly took swift action. Bennett explained, “A couple of passengers, Israeli citizens, jumped into the cockpit, overcame the alleged terrorist, and allowed the second crew to take over.”
Graphic footage captured the attacked pilot, who was bleeding and using an oxygen mask. Both pilots were later hospitalized, according to Saudi airport officials.
Israeli officials are investigating whether the co-pilot’s actions were an attempt at terrorism. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lauded the passengers’ bravery. “I salute the heroes who showed extraordinary bravery and, according to the passenger’s account, saved many lives,” Netanyahu said.
He confirmed the arrest of the co-pilot by Saudi authorities, who are questioning him.
