A 70-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed Wednesday afternoon during a dispute on the city’s South Side. According to authorities, the incident occurred inside a residence in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
The woman was in the company of a 63-year-old man when a verbal argument escalated into violence at approximately 3:20 p.m. Chicago police reported that the man involved in the altercation retrieved a gun and fired shots at the woman.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, sustained gunshot wounds to her neck and chest. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. An autopsy was planned for the following day to further investigate the cause of death.
Investigators recovered a firearm from the location. Authorities have arrested the man, and charges were pending as of Wednesday night. The incident is suspected to be domestic-related, and Calumet Area detectives are leading the investigation into the shooting.
