Democracy Dies in Darkness.
The Senate confirmed Keith Sonderling as labor secretary late Wednesday night. This decision came as senators were preparing to recess to campaign before the November 3 midterm elections. Sonderling had been serving as the acting labor secretary since April, following the resignation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
Sonderling’s confirmation marks President Donald Trump’s latest Cabinet replacement, amidst numerous significant firings and resignations this year. The confirmation follows a period of notable changes within the administration.
The vote took place shortly before the Senate’s planned recess, allowing members to focus on their upcoming campaign endeavors.
