By October 12, 2026, Hurricane Isaias had left significant damage from Florida’s Gulf Coast to the Carolinas. The storm hit near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 hurricane on Friday night. It swept across the Southeast, resulting in four fatalities—two in Florida and two in Alabama.
In Milton, Florida, strong winds brought down a large tree onto a house. Phyllis Hennebery, a resident, was lying in her room when the tree fell. “I never expected to be 77 years old and face this,” she said while showing CBS News the damage.
The hurricane caused extensive damage to buildings, ripping roofs off apartments and damaging walls. By Monday morning, over 150,000 Florida residents were without electricity, alongside more than 20,000 people in Alabama, as per poweroutage.us.
Pastor Jonathan Kaushal’s church group distributed food and water to those affected. “Lots of people need help after the hurricane, and we want to support our community,” he mentioned.
Isaias also triggered at least eight confirmed tornadoes in Georgia and the Carolinas. One tornado destroyed the roof of a house around 90 miles west of Charleston. Additionally, western North Carolina saw over half a foot of rainfall flooding roads.
On the West Coast, remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel affected southern California. The storm generated 8-foot waves, damaging beachfront homes near Los Angeles. The Coast Guard rescued a man trapped on a sailboat grounded onshore. Floodwaters inundated southern Nevada, affecting the Las Vegas Strip. Severe weather also disrupted Utah during the Moab 240 ultramarathon, where around 70 runners were stranded and later rescued by bus.
