Actor Selma Blair was taken into custody following an incident on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Authorities reported that Blair, 54, was allegedly physically abusive and injured two flight attendants. The incident aimed to resolve peacefully after the Delta Air Lines plane reached the gate at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that Blair and one of the flight attendants were taken to a hospital for evaluation. The FBI is involved in the investigation but has declined to release details. Sydney Kleinmann, spokesperson for the FBI in New York, stated, “We do not comment on ongoing investigations.” Attempts to reach state and federal prosecutors’ offices in New York, as well as Blair’s publicist, were not immediately successful. Blair’s representative, however, informed media outlets that a medical emergency influenced her behavior.
Blair is well-known for her performances in films such as Cruel Intentions (1999), Legally Blonde (2001), and Hellboy (2004). In recent years, she has advocated for disability rights after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. Blair’s public engagements included joining President Joe Biden at the White House in 2023 to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This incident marks not the first of its kind for Blair. In 2016, she apologized for an episode on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles, attributing her actions to a mix of alcohol and medication.
