Collin Gosselin Reflects on Alleged Abuse by His Mother Kate Gosselin

Collin Gosselin, known from the reality show ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’, recently spoke about alleged abuse from his mother, Kate Gosselin. In an interview with ABC, Collin, now 22, shared that his mother reportedly isolated him by making him sleep in a locked basement room. This was purportedly done to keep him away from his father, Jon Gosselin. He recounted a specific incident where a teacher noticed his swollen earlobe, which he claimed was the result of Kate dragging him by his ear.

In addition to these claims, Collin described being institutionalized against his will, allegedly orchestrated by his mother. He explained that after confiding in his guidance counselor about the abuse, his mother was displeased. Following these events, he was removed from school in the fourth grade, and when questioned by child protective services, he was too afraid to speak.

Collin, who grew up in the spotlight due to the family’s reality television shows, stated that his life felt like a facade. He remarked, ‘My whole life that I lived was a lie.’ On one occasion, after attempting to run away, Collin alleged that his mother zip-tied his wrists and ankles, locking him in the basement room.

Days before turning 12 years old, Collin claimed that he was taken from the family home and placed in an institution, during which he said he received medication and minimal contact with his family. He felt that he was a threat to his mother’s reputation and financial standing.

Kate Gosselin has maintained that Collin faced behavioral challenges, suggesting conditions such as autism, bipolar disorder, and OCD. However, Collin pointed out an independent evaluation that contradicted those diagnoses. He was not surprised by the findings, expressing, ‘Because I knew that, it’s just that I needed it on paper.’

Collin’s interview with Jay Shetty included his memories of constant filming by camera crews during his childhood. He noted, ‘We were rolling every day, I mean at least a majority of the week, every week of the month of the year.’ Collin recognized his life was not typical when his parents’ divorce occurred, lamenting that exploiting children for entertainment should never happen.

Despite the serious allegations, Kate Gosselin has responded through social media platforms. She addressed a TikTok comment on why she has not sued for defamation, explaining that public figures face different legal standards. Kate mentioned consulting with attorneys over past claims, sharing, ‘I tried :(. The rules are different for ppl in the public eye.’

In further comments, Kate touched on the difficulty of parenting a child with mental illness. She stated, ‘Sadly, only parents who have a mentally ill child understand! It’s so tough and I’m learning that ppl have NO ability to understand unless they’ve been through it themselves.’ While Kate has defended herself against Collin’s accusations, these discussions continue to unfold in public view.
