Dodgers Struggle as Brewers Take 2-0 Lead in NLCS

51 minutes ago 0

The Dodgers faced a challenging start in the National League Championship Series, falling to the Milwaukee Brewers with a score of 7-4 in Game 2. The game took place at American Family Field, where pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had impressed fans in previous seasons, exited early after just 2⅔ innings.

Milwaukee benefited from strong performances, notably from Brewers captain Christian Yelich. His two-run single gave Milwaukee an early lead and set the tone for the game. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had to bring in the bullpen as the team struggled to keep up.

The matchup initially showcased pitchers Yamamoto and the Brewers’ emerging star, Logan Henderson. Despite his talents, Yamamoto allowed three runs and four hits, marking his shortest start in his career. Meanwhile, the Dodgers capitalized on the Brewers’ rare defensive errors, scoring four runs against Henderson, though only two were earned.

Mookie Betts initiated the Dodgers’ offense by working a walk that became a full count after a successful automatic ball-strike challenge. He advanced to second on Freddie Freeman’s groundout and third on a wild pitch, setting up a sacrifice fly by Teoscar Hernández.

The Brewers quickly responded, with Yamamoto giving up a tying double to Brice Turang and a tying RBI to William Contreras. In the third inning, Yelich capitalized further, hitting a two-run single with two outs, cementing Milwaukee’s lead again after the Dodgers briefly moved ahead.

Although the Dodgers intermittently led, highlighted by a fifth-inning advance from Tommy Edman’s play, defensive mishaps doomed their chances. The Brewers’ solid bullpen performance over five hitless innings maintained the lead.

The Brewers secured the victory with additional runs in the eighth inning from Brice Turang and Jake Bauers, overcoming the Dodgers’ rally efforts. With the series moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers will need to win four of the next five games to advance to the World Series.
