Jordan Walker Wins 2026 Home Run Derby with Thrilling Walk-Off

St. Louis Cardinals’ rising star Jordan Walker delivered a memorable performance at the 2026 Home Run Derby, defeating Kyle Schwarber in a dramatic finish. Walker’s decisive home run secured his victory, outshining Schwarber’s commendable effort with 12 homers in the final round against Schwarber’s 11, in a new format introduced by Major League Baseball (MLB).

With his parents watching, Walker sent his final baseball flying into the left field seats, celebrating as the new Home Run Derby champion during All-Star weekend. MLB’s revamped format allowed each of the eight contestants 20 swings to hit as many home runs as possible, with the added twist that a homer on a contestant’s last swing allowed for more swings until they failed to hit another out of the park.

Boston Red Sox player Willson Contreras set the initial benchmark with 13 homers, showcasing the form that helped his team dramatically improve this season. Walker matched this feat, setting the stage with Contreras for the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Royals’ Jac Caglianone sent a baseball into the third deck in right field, but his eight homers were insufficient to progress. Chicago White Sox favorite Munetaka Murakami hit nine, narrowly missing advancement. Tampa Bay Rays’ Junior Caminero moved forward with 12, as New York Yankees’ Ben Rice only managed seven.

In a competitive field, Philadelphia Phillies’ favorites, Schwarber and Bryce Harper, felt the home crowd’s encouragement. Schwarber advanced with 10 home runs, setting a higher bar than Harper’s eight, knocking him out of contention. However, Schwarber thrilled the hometown crowd by advancing to the finals after hitting nine homers in the semifinals against Contreras, who fell one short.

Walker continued his dominant streak by narrowly defeating Caminero 6-5, advancing to face Schwarber. In the final, Schwarber hit 11 homers, but Walker rose to the occasion. Starting with four initial home runs, he adeptly hit the necessary additional seven, culminating in a dramatic victory with a moonshot, leaving the Philadelphia crowd in awe.

Currently tied for 10th in the MLB home run rankings this season with 22 homers, Walker also boasts a batting average of .294 and 74 RBIs for the Cardinals.
