Washington — President Trump announced he is considering firing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her role as the U.S. ambassador to Greece. This comes after an associate of Guilfoyle claimed she requested $100,000 to settle her American Express bill in return for assistance with the Trump administration before her Senate confirmation hearing.
“Well, we’re looking at it,” President Trump stated to reporters en route to Ohio when asked about the potential dismissal of Guilfoyle. “We’re not happy,” he added.
Eric Deters, a businessman, informed CBS News that he believed it was a “pay-to-play” situation when Guilfoyle solicited the funds. Deters provided screenshots of text exchanges with Guilfoyle to CBS News, including a text where she allegedly requested a wire transfer. He emphasized that he did not provide the money. “Unfortunately for Kimberly Guilfoyle, at that time, I didn’t have $100,000 to spare, or I might have been naive enough to do it,” Deters stated.
Guilfoyle’s attorney challenged the text messages’ authenticity in a statement to The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported on them.
Nominated by President Trump, Guilfoyle, who had been engaged to Donald Trump Jr., became the ambassador to Greece following her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025 and subsequent confirmation in September 2025. She was notably active during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent visit to Greece.
The reported incident raises questions as Guilfoyle, President Trump, and others celebrated Greek Independence Day at the White House earlier in March 2026.
This situation remains ongoing with further developments anticipated.
