Elon Musk: The Modern-Day Musketeer

12 hours ago 0

Alexandre Dumas’s novels like “The Three Musketeers” were set in 17th century France. Characters like Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, along with the young d’Artagnan, fought valiantly against the villainous Cardinal Richelieu. Their famous motto was, “one for all and all for one.” Today, Elon Musk stands as a modern Musketeer. Instead of a sword, Musk wields a nearly trillion-dollar fortune. If wealth defined nations, Musk would be 23rd in global GDP rankings. This positions him as one of America’s most powerful figures.

Musk plans to heavily back Republican candidates in the upcoming November elections, with a half-billion-dollar investment. This dwarfs contributions from other major donors. Successful candidates could enhance Musk’s influence even further. His frequent visits to the White House and recent honors from President Trump underscore his prominence.

In international affairs, Musk holds unique leverage. Recently, he disrupted Ukraine’s military capabilities by withholding the use of Starlink’s Starshield. This action impacts Ukraine’s military strategy amid the ongoing conflict. Musk’s decisions could sway President Zelensky toward an unfavorable peace deal with Moscow. Meanwhile, Trump’s purchase of Russian diesel appears to support Moscow’s military actions against Kyiv.

Musk’s potential in global politics extends to the Middle East. In the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, Musk’s financial resources could rival actions of nation-states. Mohammed bin Salman, who once detained 400 of the wealthiest Saudi families, faces ongoing internal unrest. Continuous Houthi attacks could weaken his hold. Musk’s wealth presents possibilities similar to historical interventions in Iran.

Contemplate Musk’s hypothetical presidential run in 2028. Though ineligible as a non-native born, Musk could claim being born in the USA, tongue in cheek. While presidency may be out of reach, vice presidency remains a potential avenue. His vast wealth could make him a sought-after running mate. Historically, few have paralleled a U.S. president’s power, though J.P. Morgan’s past financial influence is notable.

Suppose world leaders, like China’s Xi Jinping or Russia’s Putin, proposed alliances with Musk. Such an alliance could redefine global politics, challenging traditional state power. Consider the idea of Musk purchasing a country. The possibilities are varied. Alone, this Fifth Musketeer operates under a creed where all support revolves around him.

Harlan Ullman, chairman of a private company and the principal author of the doctrine of shock and awe, reflects on Musk’s influence in his upcoming book “Who Thinks Best Wins.” The book, co-written with Field Marshal The Lord David Richards, will be released this Fall.
