Jay-Z has chosen himself to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The 25-time Grammy winner opted for his own performance over contenders like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, according to Puck News. Previous reports also included Harry Styles among the potential performers for Super Bowl LXI’s halftime show.
Since 2019, Jay-Z and his entertainment firm, Roc Nation, have been influential in producing and selecting acts for the halftime showcase. This marks the first Super Bowl performance for Jay-Z, although his wife, Beyoncé, took center stage in 2013 and returned as a guest in 2016 alongside Bruno Mars and Coldplay.
This Super Bowl performance aligns with the culmination of Jay-Z’s four-city tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt.’ With sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium scheduled for October 23 and 24, the tour has proven lucrative, generating over $42 million during three consecutive nights at Yankee Stadium in July.
Despite not releasing a new album since ‘4:44’ in June 2017, Jay-Z recently refreshed his audience with a re-release of his 2000 single, ‘I Just Wanna Love U.’ On Spotify, he boasts 50.6 million monthly listeners, ranking him 71st among all artists on the platform.
Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for February 14, promising a memorable event as Jay-Z takes the stage in Los Angeles.
