Ohio State Quarterback Julian Sayin Out Indefinitely with Shoulder Injury

1 hour ago 0

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced quarterback Julian Sayin will be out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury. Sayin initially faced several weeks off after injuring his throwing shoulder in the Buckeyes’ recent 19-15 victory over Indiana. However, the timeline has now extended.

Day addressed the situation, stating the team is preparing for the possibility Sayin might miss the entire regular season and potentially the College Football Playoff. “We’re not putting a timeline on his recovery. Our priority is giving Julian and his family privacy during this process,” Day said.

First off, we’re not going to put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely.

The injury occurred after Sayin was tackled by Indiana defender Mario Landino, affecting his throwing shoulder and resulting in a fumble. Sayin returned to the sidelines in a sling, raising concerns about his availability.

As Sayin’s absence looms, true freshman Luke Fahey will continue as the starting quarterback. Fahey assumed the role in the fourth quarter against Indiana and will lead the team as the Buckeyes prepare for their matchup against No. 16 USC following a bye week. Day noted, “With Luke at quarterback, we may adjust our approach, but this bye week allows us to regroup.”

Julian Sayin had been performing as a top NFL Draft prospect, with 1,772 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and only two interceptions this season. His injury is a significant setback for Ohio State, requiring the team to rely on Fahey, a three-star recruit from California, to maintain their ranking as the No. 3 college football team.

He’s got confidence, he’s got athletic ability, he’s a competitive kid,” Day said of Fahey. “I don’t think the moment was too big for him.

As the Buckeyes look ahead, Fahey’s performance will be crucial in determining their success in the upcoming games.
