The Pittsburgh Penguins’ flight had to return to Salt Lake City International Airport because forward Ben Kindel faced a medical issue shortly after takeoff. The health and safety of our players, as well as the privacy for their families, are our top priority. The team will provide further updates when appropriate.

Ben Kindel, aged 19, initially joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The forward has had an impressive start to his NHL career, playing 86 games last season with a personal best of 39 points through 19 goals and 20 assists. This season, Kindel has added another two goals and two assists to his record. During Monday’s game, he logged 18 minutes and 53 seconds of play.

The Penguins faced a 5-4 defeat against the Utah Mammoth on Monday but remained in the area until Tuesday as their next game is scheduled for Thursday. The team guarantees they will provide updates about Kindel’s health as needed. Members of the Penguins’ front office, coaching, and medical staff are currently staying in Utah to support Kindel.
