A man in Florida was arrested on Monday. Investigators discovered suspected human remains buried on a property in Marion County. This was part of the investigation into the disappearance of his father, according to an arrest affidavit seen by Fox News Digital.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated that they began looking into the disappearance of 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada on May 16. A family member reported not seeing him since May 7. Bahamon-Prada and his 25-year-old son, Andres Bahamon, lived together in Dunnellon.
Investigators uncovered evidence suggesting foul play might have occurred. This led authorities to handle the case as a homicide. On Monday, authorities arrested Andres Bahamon regarding his father’s disappearance. Initially, he told deputies he saw his father last on May 7 in the evening. His father reportedly said someone unknown was coming to pick him up.
In a twist, Bahamon-Prada’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 went missing from the property days later and is still missing. According to the affidavit, the victim’s mother later informed investigators she believed her son killed Bahamon-Prada. She encountered her son near a store. He told her he thought his father was dead and “in hell where he deserves to be” for being “an evil person” and a “junkie.”
Upon investigating the Dunnellon property on May 18, deputies found shattered glass doors with an apparent bullet hole and a shell casing near the porch. Suspected bloodstains and freshly disturbed dirt were also noted in the backyard.
A disturbing revelation came when authorities learned that Bahamon allegedly sent his mother, residing in Germany, a photo of a man appearing deceased near wooden steps. Investigators said the image seemed to depict a man resembling Bahamon-Prada, lying motionless with a red stain visible near his head and shirt.
Subsequently, detectives obtained a search warrant for the property. They discovered a large, rolled carpet buried beneath freshly disturbed soil. The affidavit mentions an odor of decomposition was noticeable during the investigation.
Authorities uncovered suspected human remains inside the carpet, though they are still working to confirm the identity.
As the investigation continued, Bahamon emerged as a person of interest. He was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in the missing-person case. Investigators believe Bahamon tried to hide or relocate the victim’s body, hindering the homicide probe.
The search continues for Bahamon-Prada’s missing silver 2007 Infiniti M35. Detectives suspect the vehicle might contain evidence tied to the investigation. Anyone with information about the car or the case should contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 352-732-9111.
