Texas Man Tests Cybertruck’s ‘Wade Mode’ in Lake

1 month ago 0

A man in Texas was detained after attempting to test the ‘Wade Mode’ feature on his Tesla Cybertruck by driving it into Grapevine Lake. The experiment failed as the truck became disabled and began to take on water.

The incident took place at Katie’s Woods Park Boat Ramp, where police were alerted to a Cybertruck partially submerged at the shoreline. The driver had informed officers that his intention was to utilize the ‘Wade Mode.’ This feature is marketed by Tesla as a function that raises the vehicle’s ride height and pressurizes the battery system, allowing for easier navigation through shallow water and rough terrains.

Authorities reported the experiment went awry when the vehicle ceased functioning as intended. Fortunately, both the driver and passengers managed to exit the vehicle safely. The Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted in removing the truck from the water. No injuries were reported.

The police shared images showing the stainless steel pickup submerged at the boat ramp while emergency teams worked on its recovery. The driver was arrested on various charges, including operating a vehicle in a restricted area of the park and violating multiple water safety regulations.

Tesla’s Cybertruck, introduced to the market in late 2023, has been widely promoted for its robust off-road capabilities. The vehicle’s ‘Wade Mode’ is specifically intended to handle shallow water crossings. However, Tesla advises drivers against venturing into water conditions that may exceed the vehicle’s limitations.

Grapevine Lake is a well-known recreational site in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, frequented for boating and fishing activities. The Grapevine Police Department has reminded drivers that despite a vehicle’s physical ability to enter shallow freshwater areas, legal and safety issues may arise under Texas law.
