Controversy Unfolds at Enhanced Games in Las Vegas

1 month ago 0

The Enhanced Games in Las Vegas witnessed rising tensions between athletes following the conclusion of the 100-meter sprint. The event is touted by its organizers as a ‘new global sports competition where elite athletes push the limits of human performance.’ This competition allows the use of performance-enhancing drugs, a stance that stirs debate in the sports world due to these substances being long banned for providing an unfair advantage.

Fred Kerley emerged victorious in the 100-meter sprint, completing the race in 9.97 seconds. Choosing not to use performance-enhancing drugs, he won $250,000. Kerley, who spoke confidently of beating Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second world record, posted a time that would not have placed him well at the Paris Olympics, where he secured bronze with a 9.81-second finish.

Kerley’s Reaction

After the race, Kerley commented, ‘They gotta do better than that. They need to train a little harder, get on that s*** a little bit more, and go a little harder some more.’ His statements did not sit well with fellow sprinter Marvin Bracy-Williams, who expressed his disapproval, saying, ‘He’s disrespecting the whole reason we’re here…He didn’t do nothing spectacular.’

Bracy-Williams, who finished third with a time of 10.39 seconds, earning $75,000, maintained respect for Kerley as an athlete but disapproved of his remarks. He further stated, ‘I’m OK with celebrating, but when you disrespect the rest of the athletes, I don’t vibe with that.’

Responding to Bracy-Williams, Kerley stated, ‘I’m here to disrespect the field. I’m not here to be buddies. There’s money on the line.’ Kerley emphasized the financial aspects, highlighting his obligations, such as providing for his children.

Kerley’s Athletic Background

Fred Kerley, a 31-year-old Olympic sprinter from Texas, boasts an impressive record. He secured bronze and silver medals in 2021 and 2024 respectively, and became the 100-meter world champion in 2022. His career began in 2017, and his achievements have been featured in the 2024 Netflix docuseries Sprint. Currently, Kerley is serving a two-year suspension from the Athletics Integrity Unit due to missed drug tests, though this doesn’t uniquely prove drug use, according to ESPN.

Understanding the Enhanced Games

The Enhanced Games provide a platform for both drug-free athletes and those using legal performance-enhancing substances to compete together. The event features disciplines such as swimming, track, and weightlifting.

This initiative emerges amidst countless controversies involving covert usage of banned substances in sports. The Enhanced Games allow participants to openly use most legal drugs, with proponents stating this could redefine athletic performance boundaries.

In 2025, the Enhanced Games announced securing a multi-million-dollar investment, backed by 1789 Capital with key figures like Omeed Malik, Christopher Buskirk, and Donald Trump Jr. involved. Dr. Aron D’Souza, founder, and president emphasized how this validates their endeavor. Additionally, the games receive financial support from tech billionaire Peter Thiel.
