Missionary Doctor Faces Ebola Threat Amid Outbreak in Congo

1 month ago 0

Patrick LaRochelle, an American missionary physician, is under observation in a specialized hospital room in Prague. Medical personnel are determining if he is infected with Ebola. Meanwhile, his former colleagues in the Democratic Republic of Congo are being affected by the deadly outbreak.

The Ebola outbreak has taken a severe toll, with reports of a “casket disease” circulating by mid-May. The situation escalated as patients started to succumb to the disease in large numbers. LaRochelle narrowly avoided being caught up in the immediate crisis as he was just 20 minutes from boarding a flight out of the country with his wife and three children. They were returning to the United States for a planned summer visit.

A Red Cross volunteer is actively involved in a public awareness campaign in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo. The campaign aims to educate the public amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak. Efforts to control the spread are critical as the situation develops.
