Every NFL team looks forward to June 1. This date marks when teams can designate player moves as “post-June 1,” allowing them to spread dead-cap money over two seasons. Such financial flexibility was not available on May 31. On June 2, it becomes feasible, offering teams much-needed cap relief. This can trigger numerous roster changes across the league.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared insights on three key situations: Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown, San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk, and New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara. According to Fowler, Aiyuk is deemed ‘untradeable’ by rival executives. The situation with Kamara remains at a standstill. Meanwhile, there is speculation that A.J. Brown’s move to New England is imminent.
A.J. Brown to the Patriots – June 1 Trade?
The New England Patriots might end up acquiring A.J. Brown. Adam Schefter identified them as the primary contenders. Reports suggest a deal framework is already in place, but compensation is still debated. The Eagles desire a first-round pick, which the Patriots are hesitant to provide. However, post-June 1, Brown’s $40 million cap hit for 2026 can be distributed across two seasons. With new receivers in the mix, the Eagles seem ready to move on from Brown in all but paperwork. This deal could finalize soon.
Brandon Aiyuk Cut by 49ers – Raiders’ Potential Move
According to Fowler, Aiyuk’s situation seems dire. Due to injuries and organizational conflicts, his market value has plummeted. A post-June 1 cut by the 49ers could save them about $20 million in cap space. The Las Vegas Raiders may see this as an opportunity. They recently drafted QB Fernando Mendoza and seek a primary receiver. With Aiyuk’s guaranteed money gone, the Raiders could sign him at a bargain, making the risk worth the potential reward.
Kamara Stays with Saints, Teams Up with Etienne
The Saints show interest in retaining Alvin Kamara. Though his situation hasn’t gained much traction, Kamara has expressed a desire to remain with the team, especially after Travis Etienne joined with a generous four-year contract. New Orleans plans to restructure Kamara’s deal post-June 1. This pairing could become a dynamic backfield duo, emulating the success seen with the Seahawks’ Walker-Charbonnet combo last year.
Cole Kmet to the Chiefs for a Third-Round Pick
The Chicago Bears drafted Sam Roush, which makes Cole Kmet expendable in their tight end lineup. They previously restructured Kmet’s contract to lessen his cap hit. Trading him after June 1 could save Chicago about $1.4 million. The Kansas City Chiefs, struggling with tight end issues, could benefit from acquiring Kmet as a potential long-term successor to Travis Kelce. This trade might see the Bears gaining a third-round pick, while the Chiefs acquire both Kmet and a fifth-round pick.
Ravens Consider Trading Marlon Humphrey to Giants
Marlon Humphrey, a seasoned Raven, may be on the move due to a youth shift in Baltimore’s secondary. His $26.3 million cap hit poses a financial burden. Trading him after June 1 could save approximately $15.3 million. The New York Giants, under new coaching with John Harbaugh, would find Humphrey an excellent fit. Harbaugh, who coached Humphrey his entire career, could use him to bolster a young defense. For the Giants, this move could provide a seasoned defender to guide an evolving team.
