Niles Park District Unveils Renovated Golf Mill Park

4 weeks ago 0

The Niles Park District is hosting the grand opening of the renovated Golf Mill Park from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Located at Church Street and Cumberland Avenue, the public is invited to join district and Village of Niles officials for this celebratory event.

The occasion marks the completion of a substantial $3.5 million renovation project aimed at transforming the park into a modern recreational destination. Formal remarks will commence at 10:15 a.m., and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Attendees can anticipate complimentary ice cream, kids’ giveaways, and face painting while exploring the upgraded facilities.

Supported by a $1.2 million grant through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program, the renovation revitalizes the eastern half of the park. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources facilitated the funding, covering over one-third of the total cost.

New additions to the park include pickleball courts, resurfaced tennis and basketball courts, a soccer field with artificial turf, and expanded walking paths. There is also a larger playground, picnic shelter, seating area, game tables, baggo courts, and a fitness station.

Jim Hynes, President of the Niles Park District Board of Commissioners, emphasized the park’s long-standing importance. “Golf Mill Park has been a gathering place for Niles families for generations, and this renovation ensures it will be for generations to come,” Hynes stated. He acknowledged the partnership with the State of Illinois, crediting the OSLAD program for its support.

The grand opening is free and open to all. Ice cream and giveaways will be available while supplies last. No RSVP is required.
