At the summit, Trump publicly stated that Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s right-wing prime minister, ‘begged me to take a picture with her.’ He added, ‘I wouldn’t have done it, but I felt sorry for her.’ Meloni, known for her firm stance, quickly dismissed Trump’s claim as ‘totally invented.’

In her response, shared via social media, Meloni expressed confusion over the U.S. president’s approach to his allies. She pointed out, ‘After all, this is not the first time it has happened.’ She further criticized Trump’s leniency towards adversaries of the West, articulating a desire for consistent resolve.
