Aaron Donald Returns to the Rams After Retirement

1 month ago 0

Aaron Donald, a future Hall of Fame defensive tackle, has returned to the Los Angeles Rams after a retirement lasting nearly two and a half years. Reports indicate he accepted a one-year deal worth $20 million, finalized on Sunday.

Speculation about Donald’s return had been building for several months. Reports suggested he maintained contact with the Rams’ organization, including head coach Sean McVay, and continued training with the team. Many viewed the possibility of partnering Donald with fellow star Myles Garrett more as hopeful speculation than reality.

With Donald back, the Rams strengthen their position as a Super Bowl favorite for 2026. What worries their competitors is Donald’s confidence in his performance level.

“Do I feel like I can play at a high level? Yes. Do I feel like I can still be myself? 100%. If I didn’t feel like that, I wouldn’t be here,”

Donald expressed to reporters after his first practice back with the team. He described his rigorous training process, from conditioning to football-specific drills. “In my opinion, I don’t see a difference. If not, it looks a little cleaner to me,” he added.

Now aged 35, Donald last played in 2023, ending his previous stint with impressive statistics: 53 combined tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, and eight sacks. These numbers placed him among the best in the league at his position.

His departure from the NFL while still performing well remains a mystery. Considering the Rams’ near-title efforts in his absence, fans speculated about what could have been if he’d stayed. Now, those questions fade as Donald rejoins the field.

If Donald’s assessment of his condition proves accurate, and he is indeed “a little cleaner,” the rest of the league faces a formidable challenge.
