A close friend of actor Stewart McLean, known for his role in ‘Virgin River,’ expressed deep concern when McLean went missing. Jeff Seymour, an acting coach, sensed something was wrong when McLean didn’t appear for a scheduled filming day.
“He was meticulous about everything, and there would be no chance he blew it off or overslept. When I heard he didn’t make it on Saturday morning, I knew there was big trouble,” Seymour explained in an interview with The Canadian Press.
Homicide Investigation Launched
Authorities have now classified McLean’s missing person case as a homicide investigation. The Squamish RCMP in British Columbia issued a statement saying evidence indicated McLean, age 45, was a homicide victim.
“Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of a homicide,” the press release stated.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over on May 20 and is collaborating with the Squamish RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to advance the investigation.
Community Shocked
Seymour, a friend of McLean for eight years, described McLean as well-liked with no history of conflict. “Everybody loved this guy,” Seymour said. “He wasn’t involved in nefarious activities. He spent much time reading and at his home in Squamish.”
On May 18, McLean was reported missing after last being seen at his home on May 15. His remains were later found and identified. IHIT is actively gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to form a timeline of McLean’s activities before his disappearance.
