Airman Dies in Equipment Accident at Vandenberg Space Force Base

A 23-year-old airman from North Carolina lost his life on Thursday due to a heavy equipment mishap at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Officials revealed this information on Friday.

Identified as Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, he was part of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight. The Space Launch Delta 30 Public Affairs office provides this detail. The unit is crucial in maintaining infrastructure like roads and airfields that facilitate Vandenberg’s operations under the U.S. Space Force. The base manages satellite launches into polar orbit and conducts missile tests.

According to bases sources, Eneluna operated the heavy equipment when it descended an embankment. The incident did not result in injuries to other personnel.

Vandenberg Space Force Base expressed their sorrow in a public statement: It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna. The base recognized his service with honor and commitment to his mission and peers. The loss affects the entire Vandenberg community.

The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office has not determined an official cause of death. Vandenberg units are aiding a Safety Investigation Board in examining the incident.

Hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Eneluna also spent part of his early life in the Philippines. He enlisted on March 5, 2024, and started his first duty at Vandenberg in August. He joined the Dirt Boyz team, known for pavement and equipment expertise.

Eneluna earned respect for his positive attitude and strong work ethic during his time at Vandenberg.

U.S. Space Force Col. James T. Horne III, the commander of Space Launch Delta 30, remarked, He made a lasting impression through his character and dedication.

His squadron commander, Lt. Col. Seth Poulsen, added that Eneluna embodied the ideal qualities of an Airman. He consistently supported and inspired his peers, reflecting the true spirit of an Airman.
