AL Central Matchup: White Sox vs. Tigers

2 weeks ago 0

A recent 1-1 day in baseball isn’t ideal, but it’s better than losing both bets. The win on the Twins was straightforward, while the Red Sox loss came after a late-game collapse, even though Trey Yesavage pitched well. Moving to the AL Central, the current division leader isn’t who many predicted. The Chicago White Sox, who were expected to be at the bottom, are surprising everyone by leading with a 39-34 record. South Side fans are excited for the first time in years. Finishing strong would be unexpected, but a trade might boost their roster soon.

In a recent matchup, the White Sox are pitching journeyman Erick Fedde. He’s been average, posting a 2-5 record, a 4.50 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP this season. On the road, his performance has been shaky, with a 6.18 ERA across five starts. However, he did achieve a decent win against the Tigers in late May.

The Detroit Tigers are drawing attention for their starting pitcher. Tarik Skubal is anticipated to secure a substantial contract this offseason. However, he may be traded if the team’s performance doesn’t improve. Despite reaching the postseason for two consecutive years, the Tigers are currently struggling. They are 14 games below .500, signaling issues since August 23 of the previous year.

TIGERS INCREASINGLY LIKELY TO TRADE TARIK SKUBAL BEFORE DEADLINE AS PLAYOFF HOPES FADE, REPORTS SAY

Skubal is highly sought after by many teams. Ensuring his health for the remainder of the year is crucial. This upcoming game will be his second start since returning from the injured list. In his last outing against the Guardians, he pitched 4.2 innings, allowed five hits, and gave up three runs with two being earned. Though he hasn’t faced the White Sox this season, historically, they have a .209 batting average against him. Notably, Randal Grichuk has gone 4-for-11 against Skubal.

Skubal’s presence often tips the betting line in the Tigers’ favor, providing them a strong winning chance every five days. While the temptation exists to side with Skubal, betting heavily isn’t advisable. Value lies with the White Sox, considering Skubal’s recent recovery. Yet, avoiding that bet might be wise. A suggestion is to consider the Tigers -1.5 at -105.

Instead of choosing sides, consider betting the under 8. If Skubal is in form, the White Sox may struggle to score. The Tigers average four runs per game, similar to what the White Sox allow. With generally low-scoring games, the Tigers might find it tough to score even against Fedde.
