Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York has shown support for Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Florida. Nixon will compete against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in the upcoming November election. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the necessity to support leaders who prioritize the needs of working families over special interests.
According to Nixon’s campaign, Ocasio-Cortez stated, “We need to stand behind leaders who are accountable to working people and stand up to greedy corporations.” Nixon’s campaign has also expressed intentions to pursue progressive policies, including universal healthcare, childcare, and a national rent freeze without accepting corporate PAC money.
Angie Nixon, currently serving as a state representative in Florida, is receiving praise for her commitment to community power and values. She will challenge Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in the general election.
Last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Ashley Moody to a U.S. Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio, who left to become secretary of state.
Nixon expressed gratitude for Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement, highlighting the Congresswoman as a role model for prioritizing people’s needs. Nixon said, “This endorsement adds fuel to an already energized campaign, reinforcing that people are looking forward to real change and representation.” She acknowledged Ocasio-Cortez’s support as a sign of a shared commitment to fight for families, students, and long-neglected communities.
Sen. Ashley Moody has the backing of former President Donald Trump. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Alex Vindman, whom Nixon defeated in the Democratic primary. Trump voiced his support for Moody while condemning Vindman for his role in past controversies.
