American Tourist Dies After Lightning Strike on Mount Etna

An American tourist, aged 30, tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while climbing Mount Etna in Italy. The incident occurred on Sunday as he ventured along a restricted path, attempting to approach the summit of the erupting volcano, according to the local newspaper La Sicilia.

The climber encountered a sudden thunderstorm and was hit by lightning. Emergency services received a call shortly before 8 p.m. local time. Firefighters reached the scene using a helicopter and transported the man to Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania, where he was declared deceased in the emergency room.

Mount Etna, situated on the island of Sicily, holds the title as Europe’s highest and most active volcano. It has been erupting since early August, causing numerous flight cancellations.
