An Army gynecologist, Dr. Blaine McGraw, entered a plea of not guilty to charges of secretly recording patients during medical exams. The accusations include indecent visual recording, conduct unbecoming of an officer, willful disobedience, and making a false statement.
The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel initially alleged the presence of multiple victims, citing 44 individuals by 2025. McGraw’s patient list featured numerous service members and their spouses.
McGraw appeared in court before military judge Colonel Jorge Rivera at the Lawrence Williams Judicial Center on Fort Hood. During the court session, it was revealed that McGraw now faces nine charges and 273 specifications linked to 93 alleged victims.
His charges span from 2021 to 2026 and involve 12 specifications of sexual assault, 79 of attempted sexual assault, 66 of indecent recording, and 91 of assault consummated by a battery.
The charges were filed in December following an investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division, prompted by a complaint from a patient at Fort Hood, Texas. Most allegations center on exams conducted at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center on the Fort Hood base.
NBC News provided details, including an interview with a former patient who claims McGraw recorded her breast and pelvic examinations without her consent. She filed a lawsuit under the pseudonym Jane Doe to maintain her privacy.
This lawsuit claims several additional victims exist and accuses Army leadership of allowing McGraw to practice despite prior complaints. The Army refutes these allegations.
After the initial complaint in October, Fort Hood officials suspended McGraw and initiated an investigation. The Darnall Army Medical Center’s commander revealed contact with over 1,400 of McGraw’s patients regarding the investigation.
McGraw also practiced at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii from June 2019 to June 2023. Former patients there have also been informed about the ongoing investigation and procedures to report any complaints.
