Melrose transitioned from a hockey player to a coach, leading the Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup Final in 1993. His leadership and unique style left a lasting impact on the game.

Born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Melrose began his professional hockey journey with the Cincinnati Stingers in 1976. He later played for the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Detroit Red Wings before ending his playing career in 1986. In the NHL, he recorded 10 goals, 33 points, and 728 penalty minutes over 300 games.

As a coach, Melrose found success with the Adirondack Red Wings, winning the American Hockey League Calder Cup championship in 1992. He then joined the Kings, guiding a team featuring Wayne Gretzky to an unforgettable playoff journey.
