Bella Thorne faced a challenging situation in 2019 when she resisted an alleged blackmailer’s efforts by releasing her own nude photos. The former Disney star revealed that the subsequent victim-blaming accusations caused her significant emotional distress.

The controversy began when a hacker attempted to extort her by threatening to release private images. Thorne pre-empted the blackmail by sharing the photos herself. During an appearance on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, Thorne explained, ‘I just did an honest Twitter post. I just kind of set it out as … you’re not gonna keep taking this from me, so here it is.’

The choice to release the photos led to public backlash, which deeply affected her. Thorne said, ‘And you know, I think the worst part of that was people saying, ‘Well, you did this. You are faking it. You just wanna show us your… You want us so badly to see your private parts that that’s why you’re doing it. You want it.’ And that to me, like, really broke me then.’

Thorne, best known for her role as CeCe Jones on the Disney Channel’s ‘Shake It Up,’ mentioned how devastating the backlash was, recalling filming an Instagram story where she felt ‘completely … broken and so upset, just mad.’

In a turn of events, the FBI contacted Thorne during the ordeal. Thorne described the unexpected call: ‘And then I get like a call one day, and it’s the FBI, and they’re like, ‘Hey, you know, we’ve seen this thing. We think it’s our guy and, like, can we come over? Can we get all the data? Can we see what this is?’ And they came over to my house.’

Thorne collaborated with the FBI for over a year, providing them with all the information she had. Her actions played a crucial role in identifying the suspect through his writing style. ‘So if I had not posted those screenshots … they wouldn’t have caught him,’ she said. ‘Or maybe they would’ve caught him later, but they wouldn’t have had that direct source.’

The screenshots Thorne provided were key in helping investigators build their case, ultimately leading to the identification of the alleged blackmailer. Her cooperation ensured the investigation progressed effectively.
